According to the Dallas Independent School District(DISD), seven years ago local Elementary School O.M. Roberts was the lowest performing grade school in the city. It has had 5 principals in the last 6 years and one-third of the students who started there are gone by the fourth grade. In 2002, The Jubilee Center adopted nearby O.M. Roberts Elementary School providing volunteers in classrooms, equipment, parent education, facility improvements, support of skilled teaching specialists, social workers for family assistance, management training, and Saturday school/after school programs. With collaboration from Jubilee volunteers and O.M. Roberts' wonderful and dedicated staff, the school has gone from being known as one of the worst schools in the DISD to a "Recognized" school for the 2007-2008 school year. A Recognized status is earned when 80% of students who take the TAKS test pass. Governor Parry gave recognition to eight schools in Dallas that provided teacher incentives, O.M. Roberts was one of those schools. Jubilee's goal is to help O.M. Roberts become one of the top elementary schools in the state and keep it on top. O.M. Roberts has been classified an "Exemplary" School by the Texas Education Agency for the 2008-2009 school year, an amazing accomplishment!! |
