This year at O.M Roberts, 65 Saint Michael and All Angels parishioners as well as other Dallas area volunteers,  have volunteered their time as tutors and readers in the classrooms at O.M. Roberts.  These tutors and readers help in 25 classrooms during the hours between 8:00am and 12:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The volunteers tutor for eight weeks in the fall and continue again for the spring semester after the Christmas and New Year Holidays. 

During the 2008-2009 school year,  tutors and readers donated 745 contact hours to the students of O.M. Roberts.  In 3rd grade, overall TAKS reading scores were 21% higher than the previous year, and in 5th grade they increased 16%!

The mission is to help with reading skills as well as reading comprehension.  Often these children live in foreign language speaking homes and are not able to receive help with their daily assignment.
