The program is designed to work closely with 6th-12th grade adolescents to help combat many of the frightening issues that this vulnerable age group faces on a daily basis. The programs aim to decrease the escalating truancy and high school drop out rate (currently 79%). They provide critically needed education about drug and alcohol use, as well as, gang intervention. Efforts are underway to establish a program for teenagers on sexually transmitted diseases. There are a variety of activities, including computer instruction, career guidance, life skill education, anger-management, nutrition and wellness education, personal and spiritual development, and college preparation. In the summer, groups of kids attend camps in Colorado, Michigan an d Missouri.
Accomplishments:
- 35-40 Teens participate weekly
- Developed summer camping trips outside the neighborhood and created leadership workshops to build independent, well prepared citizens
- Developed a relationship with Young Life and TEEN Contact to expand range of programs
- In 2008, Jubilee had 22 students graduate from High School, a 64% increase over 2007
